Captain Curtis Brunjes
Managing Director of Aviate & Pilot Strategy, United Airlines
Capt. Brunjes is the Managing Director of Aviate & Pilot Strategy at United Airlines where he is responsible for the development of United’s industry-leading pilot development program, as well as overseeing the launch of the United Aviate Academy which currently boasts over 8,000 applicants in a pool that is 75% diverse (women and people of color).
Capt. Brunjes flies Boeing 787 for United Airlines and has been an FAA-designated Part 121 Check Airman for over 20 years. He has worked in both Training and Operations management roles and led numerous internal projects. He headed New Hire Initial Training, led creation of the Captain Development Curriculum and designed and implemented Operational Efficiency training for pilots and dispatchers.
Capt. Brunjes is an Airline Transport rated, active general aviation pilot and owner with over 25,000 incident- and accident-free hours. He holds CFI, CFII, MEI (gold seal) and all ground instructor ratings. He is type rated on the B727, B747, B757, B767, B777, 787, A319/320 and C525 (single pilot) and is a commercial helicopter pilot and instructor. He is a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner conducting Part 61 and Part 141 Practical Tests.
As a Captain in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, Capt. Brunjes was a C141 Aircraft Commander for the 335th Military Airlift Squadron at McGuire AFB flying worldwide DOD missions, including a 9-month period of combat activation to support Operation Desert Storm. He has over 2,500 hours of Air Force flight experience.
Capt. Brunjes holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University where he concentrated in Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Transportation.
Capt. Brunjes is married with three children, two of whom are licensed pilots. He enjoys outdoor and motor sports and is passionate about aviation and the business of aviation!
